Sojourner Truth a woman named Isabella Baumfree. She was born in Ulster County, New York. Sojourner Truth was one of thirteen childs to be born into slavery. She spoke Dutch until she was sold from her parents at the age of eleven.Her third master wich was John Dummont forced her to marry another slave named Thomas. Isabella and Thomas had five children together. She worked at the Dummont's farm until a few months before the state of New York emancipated all slaves, she ran away with her youngest son. After she had settled in Akron, Ohio with the family of Isaac Van Wagene, she heard that a person fronm the Dummont family had sold one of his sons' to slavery to Alabama. Since her son had been emancipated under the state of New York and sued to get her son back, and won his return. In 1843 she took the name Sojourner Truth and became a traveling speaker. In 1850 she also began talking about woman suffrage. Her most famous speech, Ain't I a Woman?, was presented in 1851 at a women's rights convention in Ohio.

An example where she shows bravery and courage is when her son is sold to slavery. She fought and fought to get him back. She did not care that she could have been taken into slavery again. Isabella just fought for her freedom and passed any obsticle in her way.
The greatest challenge she had was to be a slve for many years of her life. She knew she was one of a few colored person to be born into slavery. Although she couldn't do anything to change her status sooner she gained freedom eveentually and gained it for he soon too. Slavery indeed changed Isabella's life, but the emancipation helped her get away from the Dummonts and to become a free black woman in the United States wich many colored people didn't know what "freedom" meant. Isabella fought every obsticle in her way and became a public speaker eventually. She would go around the country and talk about her past experiances. She mainly talked to white folks and about religion.
